Downgrade or Upgrade your ATTO firmware

There are times you might want to downgrade your Atto firmware. It might be because you have lost a feature that you like in which only exist in the earlier version of the firmware so here are the guide on how to do so.

Disclaimer: Do this at your own risk, you might void the warranty of your vehicle or you might end up bricking it all together.

Step 1. Prepare a USB drive

If you are familiar with the concept of sideloading,  then most likely you already have a USB drive that you used for sideloading. You can simply use that. If you don’t know what sideloading is then you should watch the following video. https://youtu.be/Dyiqp-0115E?si=Ga2RLMNz3GWgRHyM

Once you have your USB ready by formatting it to fat32 then you need to create the following folder structure:

BYDUpdatePackage/msm8953_64

So if your usb drive is recognised as E: then the folder should looks like the following picture in Windows

Step 2. Download the firmware

You can search the right firmware for your Atto or you could download them through the following link

https://mega.nz/folder/Y4FS3RJQ#CTGm_cu6B59vWOEDCydM0w

Navigate through the folder above and find the right firmware.

System version:

  • 13.1.22 = BYD Yuan Plus (I don’t have it in the folder)
  • 13.1.32 = BYD Atto 3, BYD Dolphin
    • V1.5
    • V.16 (2307): This is the last version where side loading is still possible
    • V1.7 (2310): Side loading & Handsfree Hack patched
    • V1.8 (2403): Allow Vehicle location tracker in App
  • 13.1.33 = BYD Seal, BYD Han (I don’t have it in the folder)

Once you have download the firmware you can copy them into the folder created in the previous step. You need to rename them file to “UpdateFull.zip“, without the quotes.

Please make sure that you have the right character case.

Step 3. Plug the USB into the car

Now that you have everything, you can bring the USB into the car and plug it in. The car should detect the USB and prompt you whether you want to install the firmware.

Final Comments (May 2024)

The following improvement was done on the latest V1.8(2403)

  • Three fingers swipe to control air-con (swipe up ordown for temperature/swipe left or right for fan speed)
  • Ambient light now follow music from Spotify
  • Turn on/off the Pedestrian Warning
  • Open and close booth
  • Upgraded Map
  • GPS location tracker on the App
  • Voice command can turn on/off Spotify
  • Still can use Defrost on/off to defog
  • Different tone for object detection sensor

You can see it in the following video

Note: The source for some of the firmware is obtained from the following link https://github.com/BYDcar/BYDGlobalFactoryImages1, and other sources that I have tested. Make sure you know what you are doing and this carry a certain level of risk. If you are not comfortable taking that risk, then you should get the firmware from your car dealership.

I picked up my Dolphin earlier this week, came with 2310, which is says is v.1.0 (not letting me upgrade yet) trying to downgrade, but getting ‘Incomplete upgrade package information, upgrade failed!’ error, am I right in thinking that’s because sideloading isn’t available on this version, so will be stuck with this until the OTA pushes through?

Thanks for getting back to me – I’m trying to install v1.6, but each time being met with this ‘Incomplete upgrade package information’ error, I’ve double and triple checked the file paths and the names of the folders match the instructions, and similarly the formatted USB is the correct type. It just refuses to downgrade
